You have had the same argument enough times to know your lines by heart. Or you promised yourself last month was the last time, and it was not. Or you cannot point to anything actually wrong, and still cannot get off the couch.
None of that is a character flaw. It is a pattern, learned somewhere, for a reason that probably made sense at the time. The trouble is that patterns outlive their usefulness and keep running anyway.
Counselling here is about finding the pattern, understanding what it was protecting you from, and then doing the slow, unglamorous work of building a different one. That is where the name comes from.
